Catalog description

The one-credit, topic-oriented language course teaches basics of the Japanese writing system and essential Japanese phrases for dining situations, both home dining and eating out. It also provides insights into Japanese culinary traditions that help students understand Japanese culture and people. Students will deepen their knowledge in the Japanese food culture. Taught in English in a seminar format, the course work includes lectures, weekly reading and reflection papers, in-class discussions, and presentations. Little to no prior knowledge of language or culture is required. Students with prior language training must seek the instructor's permission.
