Catalog description
Step-by-Step Japanese 4 is the final course in a series of four two-credit Japanese language courses ( JAPNS 11 , JAPNS 12 , JAPNS 21 , and JAPNS 22 ), designed for students who prefer a slower pace or have demanding schedules. This course is for students who have successfully completed Step-by-Step Japanese 3 ( JAPNS 21 ) or an equivalent course. It covers the second half of the material in JAPNS 2 : Level One Japanese B (4 credits) and focuses on mastering elementary grammatical structures for more detailed descriptions and explanations through aural-oral practice. By the end of this course, students will be able to read and write approximately one hundred fifty kanji characters, building on those introduced in previous courses, while further developing both their reading and writing fluency. The course also introduces aspects of Japanese culture and customs, which are essential for socio-culturally appropriate communication.
