Catalog description

This one-credit, topic-oriented language course teaches basic Japanese language skills and provides insight into both verbal and non-verbal communication through anime. Students will explore how Japanese people perceive and navigate personal interactions and social situations in daily life. Taught in English in a seminar format, the coursework includes lectures, weekly readings, anime viewings, in-class discussions, writing assignments, and presentations. No prior knowledge of Japanese language or culture is required. Students with previous language training must seek the instructor's permission to enroll.
