Catalog description

This course explores the politics of migration, as well as the challenges and opportunities presented by monolingualism and multilingualism in German history and culture. We will examine writing, translation, and the global traffic of texts as they form and alter linguistic and cultural landscapes. We will address questions of migration and translation in different media, such as film, literature, music, and theater. Students will also have the chance to reflect on their potential of becoming multilingual. This course will be taught primarily in German.
