Advanced Spatial Analysis

Catalog description

The overall goals of the course are to (1) review basic statistical techniques covered in GEOG 364 , (2) introduce students to sampling, hypothesis testing, and regression methods, and (3) provide sufficient conceptual understanding and practical experience so that students become competent in selecting and applying methods appropriate to a variety of analytical situations involving the use of spatial data. The course will introduce students to spatial regression and other forms of local analysis and teach programming skills for executing these techniques. The course covers techniques, such as local indicators of spatial association (LISA), spatial sampling, and multivariate spatial regression that allow students to identify patterns, empirical, and conceptual relationships that account for spatial variation. Students will use the skills learned in this course to complete a final project that applies spatial analytical techniques to a data set and topic of their choice.
