GEOG 362 provides students with a foundational understanding of remote sensing principles and the practical skills needed to analyze remote sensing imagery data. This course covers the core concepts of remote sensing, including the principles of electromagnetic radiation, satellite orbits, and the specifics of sensor characteristics. As a multidisciplinary field, remote sensing integrates knowledge across various domains, becoming increasingly crucial with technological advancements, more accessible imagery, broader coverage, and sophisticated data processing software. It plays a pivotal role in addressing critical global challenges, such as land cover change monitoring, weather prediction, water resource management, and climate research. The course emphasizes both theoretical knowledge and practical application, focusing on image processing and analysis such as geometric and radiometric calibration, filtering and enhancement techniques, and the classification and interpretation of imagery. Through hands-on exercises with datasets, students will acquire the essential skills needed to utilize remote sensing in analyzing and solving practical problems.
