The Introduction to Engineering Success and Professional Development First-year Seminar is a one-credit course designed for first-year College of Engineering students participating in the Women in Engineering Program Orientation. The course provides essential academic, personal, and professional skills to support undergraduate success in engineering academics. Through hands-on projects, students engage in the engineering design process and gain foundational experience with engineering modeling software. Additionally, they develop technical communication skills, both oral and written. Career exploration is a key component, facilitated through networking opportunities with faculty, industry professionals, and upper-level student mentors. The course also addresses important aspects of university life, including academic integrity, engineering ethics, and the value of diversity and inclusion. By utilizing campus resources and engaging in near-peer mentoring, students will cultivate a strong sense of Engineering Identity and community within the field. By the end of the course, students will be equipped to effectively manage their academic journey, set and achieve goals, and explore future engineering career opportunities.
