Circuit Design Tools and Data Acquisition

Catalog description
This course provides students with hands-on experience in circuit design, modeling, and simulation tools. The first part of the course focuses on using MATLAB as a computational and visualization tool for solving Electrical Engineering problems. This includes performing matrix computations, using symbolic mathematics, and implementing numerical solution techniques. Students will learn to design user-defined functions, incorporating loops, selection structures, and relational and logical operators, with applications in circuit analysis and modeling. The second part of the course covers printed circuit board (PCB) design, including board shapes and restrictions, footprint creation, placement and routing, constraint management, and two-layer board design. Students will design their own PCB, have it manufactured, and then mount and solder the components to produce a working prototype. The final part of the course is dedicated to learning to program in LabVIEW. Students will build virtual instruments using the graphical user interface and integrate MyDAQ for analog and digital data acquisition and output of control signals.
