Secondary classroom observation and participation - Students in this course engage in an extended (10 weeks, 2 days a week) field experience while concurrently enrolled in EDUC 314 . Students are assigned to a middle or high school classroom associated with their chosen field/discipline and report to their placement for at least two half-days per week over a span of ten weeks. While in the host classroom, students engage in a variety of activities under the supervision of the host teacher to gain important classroom experiences. Such activities and procedures include but are not limited to, classroom observation (of teaching, assessment, and classroom management strategies as well as student engagement and behavior); tutoring individual students; working with small groups of students; co-teaching or individually teaching a lesson to one or more classes; and attending department and faculty meetings and professional development sessions. Students participate in online discussions; conduct an interview with their assigned mentor; and create a reflective project.
