Film History for Filmmakers II presents the history of the medium of cinema from 1960 to the present. The course explores the artistic, technical, economic development of the cinema, and the cultural contexts in which this development occurred. The course covers narrative, experimental, and documentary cinema and trains students in the techniques of close formal analysis of the cinema. The course builds upon formal, thematic, and cultural analysis of the cinema introduced in other film studies courses. It enables film students to closely examine the trends in their art form while providing all students with a more intensive study in the history of an influential medium in the development of the mass media, communications, and visual/audio art.
