Construction Safety and Risk Management

Catalog description

This course introduces construction safety practices and management in civil infrastructure projects. It also covers the standards, policies, and procedures of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) as related to creating and maintaining safe construction sites. Topics include introduction to OSHA, workers' rights, employer responsibilities, compliance with OSHA safety requirements, record-keeping, mandatory training, site safety meetings, emergency planning, inspection procedures, hazard analysis, accident prevention, OSHA Focus Four Hazards, health hazards, excavations, scaffolds, stairways and ladders, electrical safety, confined spaces, cranes and derricks, motor vehicles and mechanized equipment, and fire prevention. The course also introduces the student to the concepts of risk management and control.
