Catalog description

The primary goal of this course is to gain an advanced level reading fluency in Biblical Hebrew poetry. To this end, the course will especially focus on matters of language-nominal and verbal morphology, syntax, lexicon, etc.-and include weekly reviews of Classical Biblical Hebrew grammar. For each class, students will translate select Biblical Hebrew poetic texts by making use of essential scholarly tools for the reading and interpretation of the Hebrew Bible. Additionally, students will be introduced to different strata of Biblical Hebrew poetry as well as unvocalized ancient Hebrew poetic texts during the second half of the semester. This course may be repeated for credit.
