Catalog description

The primary goal of this course is to gain an advanced level reading fluency in Biblical Hebrew prose. To this end, the course will emphasize matters of language-nominal and verbal morphology, syntax, lexicon, etc.-and include weekly reviews of important elements of Classical Biblical Hebrew grammar. For each class, students will translate select Biblical Hebrew prose texts by making use of essential scholarly tools for the reading and interpretation of the Hebrew Bible. Additionally, students will be introduced to later strata of Biblical Hebrew prose and ancient biblical manuscripts during the second half of the semester. This course may be repeated for credit.
