Designed to help students prepare for the required field experience in the Global Health minor. BB H 390A Preparation for Global Health Field Experience (3) This purpose of this course is to train students admitted to the Global Health (GLBHL) minor to plan and prepare for the required field experience in a global health setting. Students in the minor must take both this course, BB H 390A, and the subsequent field experience course, BB H 390B. This course includes an examination of both practical and academic issues related to successfully completing an appropriate field placement. Focus is given to encouraging students to become reflective global health practitioners who are able to adapt to and work through personally and professionally complex situations. Interactive class lectures, readings, case studies, discussions, assignments and projects/presentations will help students gain an awareness of the socio-cultural, economic, and political context of various kinds of global health professional settings, and to be sensitive to the constraints under which health professionals work in different parts of the world. To broaden their understanding of the realities of engaging in the field of global health, students will have opportunities to meet with individuals who have health work experience in a variety of low and middle-income settings.
