Catalog description

General Education (GA) course in wooden boatbuilding to study craft and practical woodworking techniques in context with a study of maritime history and material culture. This class will also look at how boats and ships are used as metaphors in language, visual art, and popular culture. In this course, students will work on a central boatbuilding project supplemented with presentations, discussions, and museum visits to demonstrate how artistic studies can lead to professional opportunities, in this case, illustrated in maritime culture and industry. No prior woodworking or boating experience is required for this course.
