This doctoral-level course examines the professional role development of the Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) within evolving and complex healthcare systems. Students explore critical domains of CRNA practice including healthcare finance, business operations, practice management models, informatics, information systems/technology, and ethical leadership. Students critically examine healthcare policy, advocacy strategies, leadership, and the role of CRNAs in shaping legislative and organizational change. Additional focus is placed on personal and professional wellness, with specific attention to burnout prevention, stress management, and substance use disorders in anesthesia providers. The course cultivates self-awareness, professional identity, and ethical decision-making, empowering students to lead with competence, compassion, and integrity in diverse anesthesia practice settings.
