Telling Research Stories: Public Intellectualism and Public Pedagogy in Education

While many educational researchers hope to impact practice and policy, a variety of barriers can prevent widespread dissemination of research findings. This course will take a critical qualitative perspective to consider how story can bridge gaps between conducting impactful educational research and sharing findings with audiences both within and beyond academia. By engaging in forms of public pedagogy, academics can share findings with a broad audience and amplify opportunities for impact. However, new questions of validity emerge from this kind of public intellectualism, which also calls for methodological critiques of public pedagogies. Students in this course will consider these topics and questions through a series of critical and constructive assignments.
