Current Issues and Research in Education for STudents with Learning Disabilities

Specific learning disabilities is the largest diagnosis for which students receive special education services under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. A learning disability has a life-long impact on the individual with the learning disability. The information shared in this course will benefit educators, parents, policy-makers, educational leaders, and other educational stakeholders and school personnel. In this course, learners evaluate and synthesize research and theoretical implications in the educational and behavioral support of students with learning disabilities. Topics include characteristics and diagnosis of learning disabilities, profiles of learning disabilities (e.g., dyslexia), evidence-based practices to support students with learning disabilities, personal experiences with learning disabilities, and myths or common misunderstandings of learning disabilities.
