Catalog description

This course will examine policy and programs in education and related institutions through the lens of diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging with the specific goal of building skills in ethical leadership. Students will be challenged to examine prior knowledge and experience about socially constructed concepts of identity that are associated with power and oppression including race, gender, sexuality and dis/ability. Building from individual understandings of bias and privilege, this course immerses students in scholarship focused on structural inequities that are embedded within policy and programs including racism, sexism, classism, homophobia, and ableism. Focus is on an intersectional approach to studying educational structures from PK3 through university in the US as well as internationally.
