Catalog description

This seminar is focused on the socioeconomic determinants of child health and health care utillization from a health economics perspective. The role of public policy in achieving equity in child health outcomes and use of health care will also be examined. The course is designed to 1) strengthen students' understanding of the multidimensional nature of health and well-being during childhood and the magnitude of health disparities that exist among children of differing socioeconomic position and race/ethnicity; 2) strengthen student's understanding of the economic determinants of child health and health care utilization; 3) encourage critical evaluation of existing governmental policies impacting children's health and health care utilization and the potential to reduce disparities and 4) enhance students' expertise in the synthesis and critical analysis of evidence related to the socioeconomic determinants of health and health care utilization.
