DIGIT 220N
Introduction to 2D and 3D Procedural Animation
Pennsylvania State University-Fayette Campus (Eberly) · UGRD · Fall 2026
Catalog description
This course introduces students in a general education context to procedural animation, applying algorithms within animation software to simulate physics realistically and control how polygonal forms are animated over factors of time. The methods of procedural animation require computational processing called motion scripting, unlike traditional "stop-motion" animation that is controlled manually by the animator. Students in this course learn how to collect and implement corporeal and synthetic motion data to animate 2D and 3D vector objects using computer software, following methods used in animated movies and video games.
