Principles of Nurse Anesthesia Practice II: Advanced Principles

This doctoral-level course is the second in a series of four courses that includes core principles and competencies required for safe and effective nurse anesthesia practice across the lifespan. This course prepares students for entry into clinical practice by discussing concepts such as patient positioning, anesthetic administration, and the induction of, maintenance of, and emergence from anesthesia. Emphasis will be placed on formulation and evaluation of anesthetic plans, communication and documentation, and anesthetic techniques and complications. Simulation scenarios integrate patient monitoring, induction of general anesthesia, procedural skills, and team-based communication. A structured operating room (OR) shadowing experience bridges academic preparation with the expectations of immersive clinical practice. This course ensures students demonstrate readiness to enter the clinical environment with competence, confidence, and an ethical, safety-driven mindset.
