This doctoral-level course is the first in a series of four courses that includes core principles and competencies required for safe and effective nurse anesthesia practice across the lifespan. Students develop essential clinical skills in anesthesia-specific patient assessment and evaluation, operating room preparation, perioperative monitoring and data interpretation, diagnostic reasoning, and preoperative documentation. Content includes basic airway assessment and management, the anesthesia machine, anesthesia equipment, and anesthetic monitoring systems. Simulation-based learning (12 hours) is integrated to enhance psychomotor skills related to the preparation of the operating environment and patient preparation. The course emphasizes professional vigilance, critical thinking, and situational awareness.
