Catalog description
This course provides an overview of the American healthcare policy process as it operates at the federal, state, and local levels in both public and private organizations. Both theoretical and practical material will be utilized to examine the ways health policy is formulated in the political arena in the United States. The course will examine the mechanisms that come into play between stakeholders and elected and appointed officials in the formulation, passage and implication of health policy at the state and federal levels. Particular attention will be directed towards the legislative and regulatory processes that impact on the final enactment of law. This course will also examine those facets of the legal system that permit the implementation of policy.
