Advanced Pharmacology for Anesthesia Practice

Catalog description

This doctoral-level course prepares students for the safe and effective pharmacologic management of patients across the lifespan in the perioperative setting. Students explore the pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics of various anesthetic agents, with particular attention to how patient-specific variables - including age, comorbidities, and organ function - affect drug selection, metabolism, and patient response. Through the integration of evidence-based guidelines, learners analyze clinical scenarios and apply pharmacologic reasoning to individualized anesthetic patient management. Students will formulate risk mitigation strategies to prevent drug errors, adverse events, and medication interactions.
