Catalog description

This course provides comprehensive instruction on strategies for promoting and maintaining the health and safety of children by learning about essential health practices, safety measures to prevent accidents and injuries, and nutritional guidelines to support healthy growth and development in children. The curriculum emphasizes evidence-based approaches, practical applications, and community resources to ensure the well-being of children in various settings, as well as maintaining a commitment to professionalism. Students will use evidence-based knowledge and professional standards for working with diverse families to become advocates for children. To enrich this learning experience, students will engage in weekly field observations within early childhood programs, schools, agencies, or other approved early childhood education (ECE) settings, allowing for real-world application of theoretical concepts and insights gained throughout the course. This course provides students with 45 hours of in-depth training, alongside a curated collection of essential resources, to effectively construct the portfolio required for professional recognition. This portfolio is crucial for applying for the Child Development Associate Credential, which serves as an important milestone in advancing careers in child development and early education. Students will gain the knowledge and skills necessary to meet the council's standards and demonstrate their competence in the field.
