Catalog description

Quantitative study of particle and rigid-body motion in two and three dimensions using analytical and software-enhanced workflows. Topics include kinematics of translation and rotation, Newton’s laws, work and energy, impulse and momentum, and fatigue due to cyclic loading. Special emphasis on the analysis of mechanisms and the mechanics of linkages, cams, gears, and belt or chain drives. Mathematical and computational models are developed to determine mobility, transmission angles, force transmission, actuator requirements, and component capacity. Hand calculations are validated and extended using software to simulate the kinematic motion and corresponding dynamic loading, with clear documentation of assumptions, inputs, and acceptance criteria.
