Catalog description

Theory and application of advanced design of industrial products and manufacturing systems. Emphasis on design considerations for features requiring multi-axis CNC machining and turning, advanced toolpaths such as surfacing and undercuts, multi-stage forging, injection molding undercut strategies and insert molding/over-molding. Includes independent student research into additional manufacturing methods responsible for component forming, surface treatments and coatings, fabrication, and heat treatment. Advanced techniques in parametric modeling software are used to develop designs and analyze parts and tooling. Design theory is reinforced through hands-on production of physical parts. Fall Only.
