Catalog description

Study of various surgical specialties as they pertain to the surgical technologist; these include oral and maxillofacial, ophthalmic, orthopedic, peripheral vascular, cardiothoracic, and neurologic. Emphasis on medical terminology, pathology, and anatomical structures relevant to these specialties. Study includes detailed understanding of basic and specialized surgical instruments, supplies, and medications. Discussion includes establishment of the surgical suite, sterile field, draping needs, and patient positioning. Spring Only.
