Introduction to the professional and administrative foundations of surgical technology. Topics include the structure of healthcare facilities, hospital organizations, and the specific job responsibilities of the surgical technologist. Strong emphasis on ethical, moral, and legal responsibilities, including assessment of a patient's physical, spiritual, and psychological needs, and quality of care. Exploration of the physical design and needs of a surgical department, basic patient chart components, and identification of common occupational hazards within the surgical setting. Spring Only.
