Exotic Companion Animal Medicine/Surgery

Catalog description
The purpose of this service is to introduce the student to exotic companion animal medicine and surgery. Students will gain knowledge of these animals by hands-on experience and participation in rounds. The student will be expected to observe appointments and surgery for exotic companion animals, wildlife, and occasional zoo animals, review husbandry of patients seen, perform physical examinations and document findings, derive a list of differential diagnoses and a plan for patients and document thought process, and finally, present a case, topic of interest, or research project at the end of the rotation. This is usually about 20-30 minutes. Required time by students is Monday though Friday 8:30am - 5:30pm.
