Urban Redevelopment

Catalog description
This course explores the politics and practice of urban development, examining and contrasting efforts led by government, community-based groups, and the private sector. Topics will include the historical context, dating to the early 20th century, of contemporary practice; how decisions that shape neighborhood change are made, and who makes them; Students will be required to apply readings and lecture topics to develop and present full project plans, implementation schedules, and related budgets. The class will be in seminar format, mixing lecture, discussion, and technical training. Students should have a basic working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and an understanding of budgets.
