Catalog description

This course aims to explore and develop the student’s directorial practice. The goal of this class is to build a strong foundation for stage directors and theater practitioners. Over the course of the semester the class will actively explore topics of directing such as stage composition, script analysis, working with actors, dramaturgy, theatrical styles and forms, and understanding the impact of prominent directors. Students will be expected to put this knowledge into action through their directing work. Because directors learn best by working with actors on scripts in rehearsal, the directors will work in collaboration with the Advanced Acting course. The student directors will rehearse and stage scenes and projects with the acting class. Instructor permission required, because there is a prerequisite of Introduction to Acting or Fundamentals of Acting.
