THAR 1120
Advanced Acting
University of Pennsylvania · UGRD · Fall 2026
Catalog description
This course continues the work begun in the THAR 0120 Introduction to Acting course. The specific focus of the course will be on helping students to connect more deeply and truthfully with each other on stage, freeing up the body of the actor to fulfill the physical demands of characterization, and analyzing the dramatic text to clarify objectives and actions. Attention will also be given to helping students work through specific problems and personal, creative obstacles. This course focuses on rehearsal and staging of scenes. The course also includes readings from modern theorists and practitioners. Advanced Acting students will work alongside the directing class to rehearse and stage scenes. Permission of instructor required. (Prerequisite: THAR 0020 Fundamentals of Acting, THAR 0120 Introduction to Acting, or equivalent.)
