Catalog description

In Movement for the Actor, we will explore the art of bodily expression in both theory and practice, with a focus on contemporary theatre and movement techniques that are fundamental to an actor's or performer's toolkit. Beginning with an understanding of how we live in and communicate with our bodies, students will explore various ways that we, as humans, tell our stories physically. Students will learn to inventory their movement habits, practices, and histories, to tell stories through the body, interpret text through movement, and explore the works of significant theorists and practitioners in the art of movement for the actor.
