Given the prevalence of trauma and its long-lasting effects, professionals in social work and behavioral health frequently encounter individuals seeking support for trauma-related challenges. This course focuses on equipping practitioners with an advanced understanding of trauma-informed assessment, treatment interventions, and resilience-based services. Students will explore the complexities of trauma treatment, including managing challenges and crises, addressing common countertransference and reenactment dynamics, understanding the impact of vicarious traumatization, and fostering post-traumatic growth in both clients and practitioners. The course will also emphasize the importance of considering the client’s context, intersectionality, and cultural background, as well as addressing social justice issues related to trauma causation, consequences, and healing. The course is restricted to Doctorate in Clinical Social Work (DSW) students.
