Catalog description

The purpose of this course is to teach the basics of practice research, with an emphasis on intervention research and answering practice questions. This course will focus on research ethics, building conceptual frameworks, source credibility, formulation of research questions and hypotheses, various designs, sampling methods, operationalization of concepts and measurement issues, and various scale types and scale selection criteria. Special emphasis will be placed on the development of designing feasible and practical research studies to answer questions of importance to social work practice. The course will cover the selection and development of outcome measures, intervention manuals, and fidelity measures. It will examine evidence-based practice and its relationship to systematic reviews and meta-analysis. The course is restricted to Doctorate in Clinical Social Work (DSW) students.
