Catalog description

This seminar explores the epistemology, conduct, politics, and aesthetics of ethnographic fieldwork. In addition to examining classic and contemporary texts, students will gather and analyze ethnographic data. Participants will also navigate various phases of the ethnographic process, including gaining access to a research site or population, taking field notes, conducting and transcribing interviews, and performing preliminary analyses of their findings. We will also address the challenges associated with entering, being present in, and exiting the field. The seminar is therefore tailored for students who are eager to participate in focused, practical training in both ethnographic theory and practice. Also Offered As: SOCI 7468
