Global Reproductive Health Law & Policy

Catalog description

The promise of reproductive rights and the impact of law and policy are the themes of this course, which will explore how governments can limit or promote reproductive health. We’ll consider global health policy, international human rights, and national law (within and outside of the United States). This course will examine topics including abortion, contraception, and assisted reproduction in the contexts of human rights, gender equity, racial justice, and political movements. Students will walk away from this course with the skills to (1) understand the history and current legal and policy frameworks underpinning global reproductive rights; (2) apply principles in international human rights law, foreign law, and US law to specific issues in reproductive health, and; (3) compare the state of reproductive health, law, and justice in national law inside and outside the US.
