Catalog description

This course offers a comprehensive introduction to community health, equipping students with essential leadership and advocacy skills. Students will learn to assess community landscapes, engage and collaborate with constituents, and mobilize communities around shared priorities. By adopting an assets-based approach, the course highlights the strengths of communities and their leaders, enabling students to identify diverse leadership roles within communities. Additionally, students will explore opportunities for community leadership across various settings, including academic institutions, community organizations, and health agencies. The course emphasizes developing skills and techniques for leading effective, collaborative, health-focused interventions, particularly for marginalized populations. By the end of the course, students will be well-prepared to lead and be trusted allies in community health improvement activities.
