Catalog description

The first of the two-part project series for Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) scholars, this course focuses on developing a comprehensive project proposal. The essential concepts and processes of project management are introduced and tailored to the healthcare context. Scholars develop an academically rigorous plan to lead an evidence-based change project aiming to improve outcomes of value to patients, families, community healthcare workers and/or healthcare organizations. Collaboration with key project site stakeholders is a major focus, ensuring that project proposals align with the needs of relevant healthcare organizations. Individualized faculty mentorship provides tailored guidance throughout the planning process. The development of project evaluation plans emphasizes process and implementation metrics, project outcomes, and includes measurement principles and recommended practices for data management within a data analytics decision-making framework. Applied learning experiences in data management, quality improvement analytics, descriptive statistics, and graphical analyses support learners to acquire data analytics skills, including interpreting evaluation results, that are applicable to change initiatives in practice. This course equips DNP scholars to design, develop and plan rigorous project proposals and to promote high-quality, equitable healthcare outcomes.
