Catalog description

In this course, students apply and integrate core concepts of quality improvement, informatics, and business planning. Through the execution of a mock QI project, learners achieve proficiency in the use of basic process improvement tools within a particular QI methodology/framework. Students practice scoping a project, organizing a team, understanding the problem and the data, and selecting interventions. Informed by systems thinking and an understanding of informatics, students develop solutions to address process inefficiencies and improve healthcare quality. The culmination of the course includes a financial analysis and a business plan to ensure sustainment of improvement efforts. Throughout, learners practice giving and receiving feedback, and fostering an open and collaborative approach to healthcare quality improvement.
