Neonatal Nurse Practitioner: Theory III

Catalog description

The purpose of this third course in a 3-course series is to build knowledge, skills, and attitudes related to the assessment, diagnosis and management of critically ill and high-risk neonates and infants up to age 2. Through case studies and clinical decision-making exercises, learners will focus on complex assessments, application of advanced diagnostics and therapies, ethical decision making, and coordination of transitional care across settings. Students will apply their knowledge of neonatal pharmacology, developmental physiology and pathophysiology, and management of critical and multi-system conditions. Learners will also develop strategies to educate families using adult learning principles and advocate for optimal outcomes through informed, collaborative care. Students will build on their diagnostic reasoning and clinical decision-making skills through increasingly complex patient scenarios, including family considerations. At the end of the course, students will be able to integrate knowledge of acute, critical, and medically complex illnesses with diagnostic reasoning and critical thinking in patient-family centered assessment, diagnosis, and management.
