Pediatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner: Theory II

Catalog description

The second of three-course series building knowledge, skills, and attitudes related to the assessment, diagnosis and management of moderately complex pediatric acute care conditions. The epidemiology, patient presentation, differential diagnoses, diagnostic evaluation, and evidence-based management of these diseases will be presented. Students will build on their diagnostic reasoning and clinical decision-making skills through increasingly complex patient scenarios. Through case studies and clinical decision-making exercises, students will apply foundational science including physiology, pathophysiology, genetics, and embryology to identify important aspects of systematic assessments, interpret more complex diagnostics, and recognize early signs of distress. Learners will refine pharmacologic management skills, identify ways to engage families in care planning, and address the needs of vulnerable children and their families. At the end of the course students will be able to integrate knowledge of acute and moderately complex illnesses with diagnostic reasoning and critical thinking in patient assessment, diagnosis, and management.
