Pediatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner: Theory I

This course introduces foundational knowledge for pediatric acute care nurse practitioner students caring for children with acute, critical, and complex chronic conditions within the family context. Through case studies and clinical decision-making exercises, students will build knowledge, skills, and attitudes related to physiologic and pathophysiologic processes, epidemiology, systematic assessment, clinical reasoning, basic interpretation of data, diagnosis and evidence-based management of common diseases among pediatric patients, safe prescribing practices, family education, and inter-disciplinary collaboration. Students will build on their diagnostic reasoning and clinical decision-making skills through increasingly complex patient scenarios. At the end of this course students will be able to integrate knowledge of pediatric patients with acute, critical, and complex chronic conditions with diagnostic reasoning and critical thinking in patient assessment, diagnosis, and management.
