Neonatal Nurse Practitioner: Theory I

This course introduces foundational knowledge for neonatal nurse practitioner students caring for pregnant people, well newborns and high-risk neonates within the family context. Through case studies and clinical decision-making exercises, students will build knowledge, skills, and attitudes related to physiologic and pathophysiologic processes, embryology, epidemiology, systematic assessment, clinical reasoning, basic interpretation of data, diagnosis and evidence-based management of common diseases among neonates, safe prescribing practices, family education, and inter-disciplinary collaboration. Students will build on their diagnostic reasoning and clinical decision-making skills through increasingly complex patient scenarios. At the end of this course, students will be able to integrate knowledge of well infants, stable neonates, and common neonatal conditions with diagnostic reasoning and critical thinking in patient assessment, diagnosis, and management.
