Catalog description

This first course in the three-course series introduces students to the principles of assessing, diagnosing, and managing common health conditions across the lifespan. Students will explore epidemiology, patient presentation, differential diagnoses, diagnostic evaluation, and evidence-based management strategies. Emphasis is placed on developing foundational diagnostic reasoning and clinical decision-making skills through guided, introductory patient scenarios. A final summative assessment involves simulation to ensure expected student learning outcomes are achieved. These learning outcomes aim to develop advanced clinical reasoning, advanced practice assessment and communication skills to support family-centered, equitable, and evidence-based care. By the end of this course, students will demonstrate foundational competency in clinical reasoning, evidence-based assessment, and person-centered management of common conditions across the lifespan, preparing for increasingly complex diagnostic decision-making in subsequent courses
