This course equips entry-to-practice nursing students with the foundational skills necessary to provide comprehensive patient assessment and person-centered care. Students gain the knowledge and skills needed to perform a clinically relevant, holistic health assessment. This course integrates didactic sessions on the physical assessment of body systems with hands-on practice, featuring instructor-led demonstrations and supervised physical examination exercises in a simulation laboratory setting. The course introduces essential safety practices to protect both patients and healthcare providers. Students learn to identify and mitigate risks emphasizing infection prevention, safe handling techniques, and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Students practice documentation of assessment findings. This course introduces the basic concepts of the electronic health record, its role in communication technology, and how it enhances clinical information flow.
