Food, Language, and Identity in Afro-Luso-Brazilian Culture

Catalog description

This course examines the role of food in linguistic expression, literature, and cultural identity across Afro-Luso-Brazilian traditions. Through the analysis of texts, films, and linguistic practices from Brazil, Portugal, Angola, Cabo Verde, and Mozambique, students will explore how food serves as a powerful lens to reflect and understand social identities, as well as aspects of the historical and political dynamics of these Portuguese-speaking countries. This course will be taught in Portuguese.
