Beginning Korean II (Penn Global Seminar)

Catalog description

Korean 0201 (Beginning Korean II) is the second semester of elementary-level Korean. Upon completion of this course, students will be able to handle simple elementary needs such as ordering food in a restaurant, shopping, using public transportation, asking for weather information, talking about personal interests, etc. As a Penn Global Seminar course, students will have ample opportunities to engage with real language and cultural perspectives, practices, and products, while also collaborating on a bilingual mini research project with language partners on a topic of their choice related to various aspects of Korean culture and society. The travel components include various cultural sites, historical monuments, museums, exhibits, and educational institution(s) to explore and develop an in-depth understanding of Korea’s past and present. Upon completion of the course, students are expected to obtain the Intermediate Low level of proficiency based on the ACTFL (American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages) proficiency scale. Note: This course will be offered in Spring 2026 if approved by Penn Global.
